Warsaw

Poland is the heart of Europe. The history of the country is exciting and symbolic. Once the largest state in Europe during the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, whose tolerance attracted significant immigration from closer and further afield, it ceased to exist on the maps of Europe for a total of 123 years. Today, it is a fascinating country well worth a more extended visit. In Central Europe, Poland is the sixth most populous member of the European Union. Due to its geopolitical location, the country connects the East with the West of Europe in cultural, political, and economic dimensions.

Warsaw is the largest city and the capital of Poland. Warsaw is Poland's most prominent, renowned, and vibrant city, with a rich history and much to offer visitors. Warsaw, the capital of Poland, is located at the heartland of the unique Mazovia Province with a population estimated at nearly 2 million residents, is one of the most dynamic metropolises in Europe. Warsaw, split by the Vistula River, has two sides with different atmospheres and attractions. Warsaw’s downtown, located on the west side of the Vistula River running through the city, is the center of business, art, entertainment, shopping areas, fine restaurants, museums, theatres, cinemas, galleries, skyscrapers, bars and hotels. Being a center of research and development, Warsaw’s downtown is a perfect location for international scientific and economic events, conferences, and conventions of various sizes. The glamorous west riverbank is bustling with energy and activity. In contrast, the Bohemian Praga districts on the east bank offer numerous attractions off the beaten track, alluring tourists to taste their unique atmosphere, admire their innovative street art, and visit alternative theatres. Warsaw offers a wide range of tourist attractions. The picturesque Old Town with the Royal Castle, the Sigismund’s Column, and many beautiful squares, reconstructed after World War II, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Having survived Poland’s partitions, the Wilanów Palace reminds us of the country’s turbulent history. Worth seeing is Łazienki Park (Royal Baths Park). The historic park offers plenty of green space to relax and jogging paths. An exciting way to experience Warsaw is to explore a few interactive museums, including the Warsaw Uprising Museum, the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, and the Copernicus Science Centre, the largest science center in Poland, standing on the bank of the Vistula River. Warsaw is the seat of the National Museum, the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Great Theatre-National Opera, the largest in the world. All the sites mentioned above are pretty well connected (bus). Being a city full of surprises, Warsaw is worth a look beyond the surface. Exploring pays off.

Visa information

Please note that in some cases it is required to obtain a VISA before entering Poland.
If you are a citizen of an EU member state the only thing you need to have to enter Poland is a valid travel document or a document confirming identity and citizenship (i.e. your national ID).
The two main documents you will need to enter Poland you if are not a EU citizen are:
1. a valid travel document (passport);
2. a visa (if required).
Generally, you need a visa to enter Poland. There are, however, a number of countries that are free of this requirement. For more details refer to: https://www.gov.pl/web/diplomacy/visas

Poland is a part of the Schengen zone, so you can apply for a Polish visa and travel all around 27 countries it covers.
